the twist

billboard just released the top 100 songs of the billboard hot 100 chart era, and the song at the top may not be what you would expect. according to them, the hottest song of the past 50 years is chubby checker's "the twist." while i like the song, i'm not sure i think it should be at the top. i definitely do not agree with the rest of the top 5, which are:

2. Santana's "Smooth," featuring Rob Thomas,
3. Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife"
4. Leann Rimes
' "How Do I Live"
5. Los Del Rio's "The Macarena"

the artists/groups who appear most often on the list at least restore some order to things.

The Beatles do top Billboard's all-time Hot 100 artists, followed by Madonna, Elton John, Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and the Rolling Stones.

anyway, what do you guys think?

I'm not sure what kind of formula they were using to get that list, but it sounds WAY off!

The Beatles are one of the few (if only) musical acts to have songs in in the #1, #2, and #3 spots simultaneously! And it's a no brainer that they're the biggest name in Pop music... EVER!!!! It baffles the mind that this "formula" couldn't even place them in the Top 5. And besides, "Smooth," "How Do I live," & the revamped "Macarena" are all fairly recent songs.

You're right though, the artists who appear more often do restore some order - still - I'm curious to see how this "formula" works.
